Strike: Nigerian Labour leaders, FG in last minutes crucial talks at Aso Rock

Leaders of Labour unions on Sunday afternoon arrived the presidential villa for talks with the Federal Government as an emergency step to prevent a planned nationwide industrial action scheduled for Tuesday, October 3.

The leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and their Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) counterparts, had on Saturday shunned a similar meeting called by the Federal Government to negotiate.

NLC, and TUC, had on September 26, declared indefinite strike starting from October 3. Today’s engagement is a last crucial intervention to avert the move by Labour, which many fear could have a devastating effect on the economy and livelihoods.

The planned nationwide strike, among others, is to make the government address its alleged insensitivity to the plights of Nigerians as a result of the removal of petrol subsidy and continuous demonstration of unwillingness and complete lack of initiative.
