2027: APC mocks NDC over talks to get Atiku step down for Obi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after reports that the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, urged former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar to step down and back Peter Obi’s 2027 bid.

APC national spokesperson Felix Morka said opposition talks about swapping candidates or bargaining for offices before voters decide the next president are premature and showed a lack of seriousness.

Kwankwaso cited Atiku’s age and health in making the appeal.

He said the former vice president, who turns 81 next year, would be taken care of if the opposition ticket wins the election.

In a post on X, Morka described the proposal as evidence of what he called hypocrisy within the opposition camp.

“At last, the veil comes off … behold the white sepulchre … they pretend to be saints on the outside but filled with the stench of corruption and malignant hypocrisy on the inside,” Morka wrote.

The APC spokesperson accused the opposition of “horse trading” over the presidency before Nigerians have decided who will occupy the office.

“Horse trading with the presidency they do not have, and will not have, by the sovereign will of the Nigerian electorate, come 2027,” he said.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has continued to express interest in the 2027 contest.

He has previously described the election as his final attempt to become president.
