Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Wednesday called on residents to stand firmly behind President Bola Tinubu, pointing to a surge of infrastructure projects in long-neglected satellite towns as evidence of the administration’s commitment to equitable growth.

Speaking during an inspection tour along the Bwari-Kubwa road, Minister Wike identified roads under construction in areas like Karu, Apo-Karshi, and the Bwari-Kubwa corridor.
He said “It is very difficult for anybody to win an election in the FCT against Mr. President because to them, it is surprising what they have seen in their lives,” he told gathered residents.
Minister Wike credited the projects with shifting development away from Abuja’s urban core, addressing decades-old grievances from outlying communities.
“We were told clearly that there is over-concentration of development in the city, and we must go to the satellite towns,” he said.
“These communities are part of Abuja, and their lives must also change.”
Minister Wike expressed satisfaction with the work’s pace and quality, noting that many areas were seeing such upgrades for the first time.
He promised faster commutes—such as a 25-minute trip from Kuje to central Abuja—and said some roads would be commissioned to mark the anniversary of President Tinubu’s presidency, which began in 2023.
The tour came amid persistent criticism that FCT infrastructure has favored the city center, leaving satellite towns with poor roads and limited services.
Since President Tinubu took office, the administration has accelerated construction to bridge those gaps.
Minister Wike also tackled concerns about real estate developers flouting regulations.
He rejected demands for a new oversight body, arguing that existing agencies, like the Department of Development Control, suffice.
“The problem in Nigeria is the proliferation of agencies. What is important is to strengthen existing structures,” he said.
He pledged swift action on complaints, adding, “If there are complaints, we know what to do. We will ensure that the right thing is done.”
Minister Wike therefore appealed for unity to support national progress, especially security, and extended Ramadan greetings to Muslim residents.
