The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji has emphasized the need for data sharing and collaboration among African nations to enhance the continent’s infrastructure.
Dr. Zacch stated this when he received a delegation from the Mozambique Revenue Authority (MRA) on a courtesy visit, as part of their study tour to the FIRS headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation was led by Inês Cumbane Nhauche, Executive Director, Extractive Industry Taxation Unit, and included Manuel Muhabe, Head of Auditing Department, Extractive Taxation Unit; Humberto Alage, Technician, Risk Analysis Department; and Joana Zualo, Technician, Auditing Department.
Available records indicate that Africa’s infrastructure needs are estimated at between $130 billion and $170 billion annually, representing a significant gap that is holding back the continent’s growth.
Dr. Zacch in a statement on FIRS’ official Facebook page said the visit of the MRA was part of their study tour to Nigeria, focused on knowledge exchange and collaboration in extractive industry taxation.
The FIRS chief executive welcomed the Mozambique Revenue Authority delegation, expressing delight at their visit and emphasizing the importance of collaboration among African nations.
“He highlighted the need for data sharing and regular engagements to develop practical solutions that can strengthen Africa’s infrastructure.
“He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to support Mozambique, noting that the FIRS has decades of experience in taxation and revenue in extractive industry and is willing to offer all necessary assistance once specific areas of support are identified,” the statement added.
