A delegation of the West African bloc led by Nigeria’s former military Head of State on Saturday launched another meeting with the junta in Niger Republic to put off the planned military intervention in that country by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s team which met with the  junta leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani was also allowed access to the detained President, Mohammed Bazoum who is being held along with his family in the basement of the Presidential palace in Niamey.

The meeting on Saturday came amidst reports of the delivery of war planes to the junta by Mali and Burkina Faso to confront the troops being put together by ECOWAS leaders to restore democracy in Niger.

Reports indicate that Mali and Burkina Faso turned their commitments into concrete action by deploying warplanes to respond to any attack on Niger,” the television station said on Friday.
