First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has launched a nationwide mobilisation drive targeting 50 million Nigerian women to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 presidential election.

The First Lady, who flagged off the campaign in Abuja, said Nigerian women have been major beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Agenda and must be at the forefront of sustaining the administration beyond 2027.

The mobilisation effort received a major boost on Monday, when more than 20,000 women stakeholders from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) converged at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC) in Abuja for a pre-campaign mobilisation and empowerment programme.

Organised by the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council, the summit was themed “Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0: From Reforms to Prosperity” and carried the rallying slogan: “One Voice, One Movement, One Choice, One Mandate 2027.”

The gathering brought together women leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, grassroots organisers, political actors and representatives of various women’s groups to review government programmes, articulate demands and strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

At the event, the First Lady thanked women for their support for President Tinubu and urged them to return to their states to mobilise voters for the party, saying the campaign would extend beyond the presidential race to legislative and state-level contests.

She also announced the consolidation of independent women support groups, including the Torch Bearers, Tinubu Support Group and Tinubu Again, into a unified APC campaign structure, and disclosed plans for six zonal mega rallies culminating in a grand finale in Abuja.

Ahead of the summit, Princess Gloria Akobundu, a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council Women Mobilisation Planning Committee, said the women’s campaign would be anchored on the impact of key programmes of the Tinubu administration in education, infrastructure, social protection, consumer credit, digital skills and youth empowerment.

She argued that the administration’s policies had created opportunities that should be consolidated through the president’s re-election.

Akobundu highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a flagship intervention, noting that the programme was designed to provide interest-free loans to eligible Nigerian students.

She cited figures showing more than 1.4 million registered students and over 1.69 million loan applications, with more than ₦191 billion reportedly disbursed through over 320 institutional partners.

Independent reporting in September put NELFUND’s cumulative disbursement at ₦355.87 billion since the portal launched in May 2024, with about 1.66m applications processed and payments made to 319 tertiary institutions.

She also listed the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) among initiatives designed to broaden access to affordable consumer financing, saying it had developed credit products covering personal loans, education, home improvement, renewable energy and other needs through participating financial institutions.

On infrastructure, she pointed to the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of major highways including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway and Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, as well as ongoing investments in rail modernisation, energy and housing.

Akobundu further cited the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, introduced following the removal of the petrol subsidy, saying expanded cash-transfer interventions had reached millions of vulnerable Nigerians alongside programmes under NG-CARES, SOLID and HOPE aimed at strengthening social protection and human-capital development.

Akobundu urged women in Imo State and across the South-East to intensify grassroots mobilisation, taking what she described as the Renewed Hope message to communities, wards and localities across the region.

She said the 2027 mobilisation would require women to move beyond political participation at election time and become active stakeholders in communicating government programmes and mobilising support at the grassroots.

The Abuja gathering is expected to mark a major step in the APC’s women mobilisation strategy as the ruling party begins laying the groundwork for the 2027 presidential campaign, with the women’s directorate separately targeting tens of millions of votes from female voters nationwide.
