Erstwhile Federal Character Commissioner for Anambra State, Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi, has said President Bola Tinubu should be re-elected in the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as the president’s courage, reform agenda and long-term vision.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, Ibeabuchi said Nigeria’s development depended on leaders willing to confront entrenched structural problems and accept the political costs of difficult reforms.
“Great nations are not built on convenient decisions,” he said, adding that countries that achieved industrial development typically passed through periods of economic transition and fiscal adjustment.
His comments come as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections and debate the record of President Tinubu’s administration, which took office in 2023.
He said the Federal Government has pointed to economic and structural reforms, infrastructure projects, investment initiatives and changes in the power and energy sectors as key areas of focus.
Ibeabuchi said those policies should form part of any assessment of the administration’s performance.
“President Tinubu’s reforms represent the deliberate choices required to secure a self-sustaining economy,” he added.
He said Tinubu won the presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in May 2026, securing the party’s nomination for the 2027 election
Ibeabuchi said the president inherited an economy weakened by what he called unsustainable fiscal policies and short-term measures that postponed deeper reforms.
Instead of pursuing policies aimed primarily at preserving short-term political popularity, he said, Tinubu had chosen what he described as a statesmanlike approach.
“He initiated structural, economic reforms designed to shift Nigeria from consumption to sustainable production,” Ibeabuchi said.
“Real national growth requires initial sacrifices, but the foundations being laid today are laying the groundwork for a prosperous future,” Ibeabuchi added.
Among the policies he cited as grounds for a second term were the removal of the fuel subsidy, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), mass housing and infrastructure development, and tax reforms.
He said the education-loan program had helped expand access to higher education and technical training for thousands of young Nigerians.
He also credited the administration with expanding social-support programs and investing in youth development, housing and infrastructure.
“By dismantling long-standing structural inefficiencies, expanding social safety programs and investing heavily in youth, housing and infrastructure, the president is demonstrating the resolute leadership needed to guide Nigeria toward enduring economic prosperity,” he said.
